A shot (in the arm)

welcome to new jersey

I can’t say enough good things about NYC, which with Connecticut, was where I spent Thanksgiving. This photo is of neither: it’s New Jersey, on my return drive.

My friend Andrew, who’s an actual photographer from Toronto video production (and cinematographer) has started a daily photo blog, The Daily Frame. Welcome to the blogroll, Mr. Takeuchi.

In just a few hours I’ll be at the Pitt Colloquium on Electronic and Interactive Texts, where the guest speakers are Stuart Moulthrop and Nancy Kaplan. The Colloquium is the Pitt English department’s best effort to engage with the issues of new media & the academy.

20 years ago today, U2 stood on a roof in downtown LA to film the video for “Where the Streets Have No Name.” In this version, 2 local LA DJs (including, yeesh, Rick Dees) talk about what a horrible, scary neighborhood it was — which was kind of the point. I was in a worse part of that neighborhood, working, a few blocks away, at Gorky’s Cafe. Several people came by who’d been at the shoot. You should go, they told me. Why would I want to? I answered. That band hasn’t done anything good since War.
