Eight things better left unsaid

It’s the 8 things you don’t know about me meme, bestowed by Levi.

1. By the time you read this, I will be on my way to the Phil Spector trial.

2. I danced ballet for years, finally graduating to pointe when I was 11, maybe 12. I dutifully stuffed the oily wool into my toe shoes, and was the right kind of pigheaded to dance through the blisters and pain. But no amount of determination could make my legs grow longer, or my hips cant outward, like a real ballerina. I gave up ballet a year later.

3. I had to wear a retainter in 4th grade. It made me talk funny and was supposed to preempt the need for braces in adolescence.

4. I wore braces from 8th grade to 10th grade.

5. At the 1992 democratic convention in Madison Square Garden, at the Jerry Brown floor HQ, I heard a small fuss nearby. I stepped out of our area and saw a crowd of people moving past; in the middle of the crowd was Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. Suddenly I understood that the history we read and know is only a fraction of the truth: this woman held within her secrets that she would never, ever spill. History could only ever be a shadow of her knowledge. I was wholly, unexpectedly, awed.

6. Once, late at night, I skateboarded past a drunk asleep on the sidewalk. In the morning I found out that he was actually a corpse.

7. Phoentically, ya govoryou russki yazik. Or, ? ?????? ??????? ????. Or, I speak Russian. (a little teeny bit)

8. My natural hair color.

I’m supposed to tag 8 people. OK: Cecil, Gwenda, Will, Jessica, Jason, Darby, Matthew and Cynthia. Apologies for the chainletterliness.
