Please, not another weather-beaten Wyoming cowboy

I’ve just finished the story collection Close Range by Annie Proulx. And can I say, not a moment too soon.
A quick tour of her site turns up this nugget:

Q. How long did it take to write the story [“Brokeback Mountain”]?
A. Roughly six months, about twice as long as it takes to write a novel.

Just 3 months per novel? No wonder I gave away my copy of The Shipping News.

About the author

I like sitting in Jack Webb's booth.
