I’m driving across the country, as you might have noticed, and blogging about the literary aspects of my trip at Jacket Copy. So far I’ve managed to write about Ohio and Lexington Kentucky; look for posts about Tallahassee and the deep south later today.

From here (I’m in Houston) on out I’m sticking to the I-10, the southernmost interstate. If you have any suggestions for the literary southwest — Texas, New Mexico, Arizona or eastern Southern California — I’d love to hear ‘em.

How could you skip literary North Carolina???

Good luck. That’s a long stretch of boring ass highway. I’ve done it many a time.

Are you going to make it up to Taos? Taos was home to D.H. Lawrence for awhile, plus a whole host of other literati past and present. It’s a great place to hang for a weekend – low-key and funky, loaded with artists of all stripes, home to the oldest working Pueblo in the country, flat out gorgeous natural surroundings, free music every night, great restaurants. It’s very different than Santa Fe, which is why I live here and not there. Come visit us!

Hi Deonne! Thanks for the Taos invite but I didn’t make it that far north. Maybe next time. I would never have thought of DH Lawrence and Taos together!
